The East Coast's Most Scenic Rooftop Bars

And here you thought rooftops were for shingles, swamp coolers and Santa Claus with his nine tiny reindeer.

Well, rooftops do have a place for all those things, but more and more bar owners are also maximizing their space. Why should Santa have all the fun and the glorious views? Here are six of the most spectacular rooftop bars on the East Coast. Cheers!

Loopy Doopy Rooftop Bar

New York, NY

I would go to this bar just because of the name! Located in the Conrad Hotel, Loopy Doopy offers signature cocktails and a view that the photographer in you will adore. Located on the 16th floor, Loopy Doopy boasts visions of the Hudson River, the Statue of Liberty and the New York Harbor. One of their cocktails includes the Prosecco & Ice Pop cocktail, which is a fruity Popsicle topped with Prosecco or Rose. It certainly isn’t your childhood Popsicle!

Whiskey Blue

Atlanta, GA

Leave your cigarettes and cigars at home if you want to visit the Whiskey Blue. Trust me, the Hotlanta skyline and the sculpture installation will take your breath anyway. Whiskey Blue is accessible by a private glass elevator. When the door opens, you’ll transport back to a vintage Palm Springs retreat, infused with mid-century modernism and 1970s-inspired glamor. Groupings of retro-chic couches, pillows and coffee tables on the outside terrace make for an intimate setting. Inside you can sink into a plump sofa surrounded by shag carpeting and watch an 18-foot video wall displaying vintage rock & roll photographs.

Sugar

Miami, FL

If you want to feel like you’re on top of the world, come to Sugar! Located in the heart of Miami’s Brickell district, this Asian-influenced, lush garden bar sits 40 stories high and serves up a surreal city and oceanic view. A curated mix of rhythmic sounds by local and international DJs create a fun and laid-back atmosphere, all the while you nibble on the Hamachi Jalapeño roll and make a splash sipping on the Lychee Blossom followed by a Sunset Samba. You’ll be glad you did.

Top of the Gate at The Watergate Hotel

Washington, DC

You’ll be stepping into a piece of history when you head on up to Top of the Gate. The Watergate Hotel is where all the brouhaha went down with Richard Nixon supposedly covering up a break-in at the Democratic National Committee back in the ‘70s. Today, you can head to the roof, sip on The Silver Fox, a Hawaiian shaved ice concoction for grown-ups, and look out over the edge to see the Kennedy Center, the Washington Monument and the Potomac River. If that isn’t enough to tempt you, the rest of the DC skyline is waiting for you as well.

Salvation

Asbury Park, NJ

You’ll think you died and went to heaven if you happen upon Salvation at The Asbury Hotel in Asbury Park, NJ. Salvation overlooks Asbury Park, which was once the jewel of the New Jersey shore. It’s had a rebirth with bonfires on the beach, open air concerts and beautifully designed gardens, all of which can be enjoyed from the comfort of your private nook in the bar. Want to know why they named their bar Salvation? Well, it turns out The Asbury Hotel was a Salvation Army in another life!

The Ides Bar at Wythe Hotel

Brooklyn, NY

You may beware the Ides of March, but don’t beware The Ides at the Wythe Hotel, or you’ll miss some amazing glimpses of New York City! This trendy bar is a gratuity-free establishment. No need to figure out who’s tipping for what. All of it is included in the service. While here, indulge in a Sixth Floor Sling, a Toki Highball or a Bordello Glow while you chat with your friends and enjoy the cityscape below. Make sure you either make reservations or get there early as they tend to reach capacity as early as 11 p.m.
